After having on again/off again results in my firing pit I finally took
the original advice given to me by Zoie Holzknecht on sawdust firing.
"The pit is fine but try firing in a garbage can with hole drilled into
it". I got lucky....I found an old wringer/washer tub that was out in
the woods. It has all those holes in predrilled in all the right
places.
Lisa Skeen dropped in two weeks ago an we fired up the old tub. Worked
great!! Used much less wood and sawdust and was unloaded in 3 hours.
Parts of the pots that were nearer the "air holes" tended towards the
reds....
Using a wash tub is by no means a new idea. It was just a first try by
me. It appears that the tub, being of heavier material than a typical
metal garbage can, may last longer (rust factor). Besides this is a
great way to give garbage another life before once again becoming
landfill.
