proper psi for the sprayboooth?

Dear Readers,

I have for some time wondered what is the proper PSI pressure for the spray
booth. I dip ceramic ware but also use a conventional (silver) sprayer for
applications of glazes. I think I am operating at about 50 pounds. I know
you don't want too much pressure or it will knock the glazes off but at the
same time I would think it would be ideal to have more (pressure) available
at the head so you can control the amount 'from' the spray gun itself.
What amount of pressure is desirable? I also use a small artist brush
which I keep on a separate line of course and manage it with its own pressure.

Any help would be appreciated
..

Most spray guns come with a warning not to exceed 50 psi. I find 40-45 psi
is ideal. If you turn the psi down low you can get a splatter or spitting
effect which might be desired for an decorative effect.

40 to 50 psi depending on what the gun is designed for 9-10 inches from the
work.

I spray a lot and I use 40# psi. What is a silver sprayer?

Most spray guns are rated for a certain psi. Just after I bought my
compressor and gun (a $30.00 US paint gun) I wasn't satisfied with the
pressure at delivery, I boosted up the pressure and nearly exploded the gun
in my hand, the bottom, normally concave, popped out like a balloon, and so
did the sides. I had 90 lbs of pressure and the gun was only rated at 35.
Lucky I didn't seriously injure myself. You shouldn't need a lot of pressure,
just a lot of volume and you may need a different gun. I now use a top load
gravity feed High Volume/Low Pressure Paint Gun that is wonderfulcost about
$70.00 at Harbor Freight.
