Will you post on clayart and ask if people know of a clay body that
works well to burnish and blacken similar to the Pueblo Indian, Maria
pottery?

Call Bandelier National Monument-book store. They have a video on
Maria. the viedo shows all the "secrets" she has in making black on
black pottery. 505 672-3861 ext 515.

P.S. She worked as a young woman during the thirtys at Bandelier
reviving the old methods of pottery.

Having used both, I can attest that the raku body Vince Pitelka has
mentioned in this forum (referred to by some as God's Bod) burnishes and
blackens quite satisfactorily, much as Pueblo clay does. The recipe is:
25 Goldart
25 Ball Clay
25 Fire Clay
25 Fine Grog
