Dannon, part of your message struck a cord of something Warren MacKenzie said at
his address a year or so ago for the Northern Clay Center Master Series.
Someone asked him why he did no Raku. He related a story about Hamada, (Idon't
know if it's true) that he ,Hamada, never did Raku until the very end of his
life. When asked why, he said because it was the most difficult of all the
pottery disciplines.
If this is true, and I think I know why it is, then why do most schools and
courses use Raku as on eof the earliest exercises. Must be the American
Way...instant gratification whether the final work is any good or not.
Never done Raku,
Tom Wirt
