I'd like to reduce the heat loss from the lid of my Skutt 1027.
I was thinking of using some kiln blanket material to seal around the
edge of the lid, but I'm concerned about the health hazard.

I've heard there is some hazard from "things" (particulates?)
accumulating in the fiber. This would be in addition to the hazards
inherent in the fiber itself I guess. I'm no expert on this.

Fortunately you can slow the heat loss from your kiln really
substantially by just putting something on top of the kiln.
A kiln shelf does quite a remarkable job all by itself.
