Hi Ravit,

The first book I reach for is The Potters Dictionary of Materials and
Techniques by Frank and Janet Hamer.

After that I cross check the information, if I have or can find it, in a
number of other books - depending on the nature of the information.

Pioneer Pottery by Michael Cardew is a wealth of info - it's out of print
but as I mentioned - there is a possibility of reprinting it legally.

Ceramics Glaze Technology by Taylor and Bull is excellent but more for
oxidation glazes - it's out of print as well but again it is a candidate
for reprint if enough interest is shown.

Stoneware Glazes by Ian Currie is full of useful information for high fired
glazes.

Out of the Earth Into the fire by Mimi Obstler is through and accurate with
very good info on materials.

The Magic of Fire by Tony Hansen is really a must for any studio potter -
it can be downloaded if you want to read it before you pay for it at
http://digitalfire.com
A hard copy is available at many suppliers specializing in pottery products.

The Hamer book is by far the most important because not only does it have
the technical information needed but it can be used to understand the more
technical books. The language of ceramic engineering makes much information
(in some of the most important books) difficult for us potters to absorb -
the Hamer book can be used as a bridge to help interpret the more technical
texts.
