Hey Folks. Just wondering if anybody would know of a source for a lid for a =

Quart Ball mill container. We have just recently had ours destroyed and in =
dire
need of a new one. If anyone has any suggestions or knows of a substitute =
that
would also be appreciated.
Thanks

depending on the shape of the lid and how it attaches, you should be able to
throw/make a replacement out of porcelain.

I've made ball mill jar lids to replace broken ones.
I've made the whole jars, in fact.
Just copy your broken lid, make it good and stout, and
use your most durable glaze.
I found out that some of my glazes are much more durable that others
by using them on ball mill jars - It's like 20 years of wear in 2 days.
Once, in a pinch, I used a plywood disk and rubber gasket.
It worked OK, but after a few days of milling, the wood looked
'weathered' - the soft part of the grain worn down more than the
hard part.
I guess there were some tiny pieces of wood in my ball milled
material, but since it just it burns out, I figured it didn't much matter.
And it allowed me to use the ball mill 'till I could make a
ceramic lid.
I don't really recommend making a lid if you can buy one, but
it will work if you can't find one to buy.

In our workshop we have a home made ball mill and the contents are held
in the jar by a child's plastic ball held in place with two rubber
thongs (cut from an inner tube) fastened tightly across the ball.
Fairly typical Kiwi type do it yourself job. Works well!
