Hi,

It is possible to fix Shimpo Rk2 wheels that have a mind of thier own.
The cone drive must be properly aligned with the drive ring.

You can adjust that alignment. There are four bolts (usually socket head
cap screws aka allen screws) on the cross brace that holds the motor,
pedal, and cone drive. This cross brace must be moved to the correct
position. To do that the easiest way is to place the
wheel on a table (no easy task, they can be ackward to lift, but at least
they are heavy) on two 4X4s. The 4X4s should be at the front and rear.

With the four bolts loosened SLIGHTLY and the wheel running tap the cross
brace with a hammer, then engage the pedal and see if the wheel speeds up
and if it gains speed at a faster or slower rate. If the rate of change
is faster tap on the other side, if it is slower tap on the same side adn
try it again.

Now if the wheel seems to have no power you need to move the motor, pedal,
cross brace assembly foward. If that works then tighten the bolts and try
it again, they need to be pretty tight. Sometimes tightening things up
cause the adjustment to change.

I recommend that you change the drive ring if you don't know when it has
been changed last, that way you won't have to do it all over again in a
couple of months/years.

The wheels can be fixed, but it takes a bit of time and fiddling. I need
to adjust two or three at school, it will take about 15 minutes start to
finish if no students are around, or three hours if I have "help" from my
students.

These kinds of adjustments are par for the course in the pre war British
cars that I like to work on, but a couple of orders of magnitude simpler.

try it, if all else fails put a brick under the pedal to stop it from
sppeding up ( a potter's fix that I have seen in use, Used it myself when
lazy).

Good luck,

foot off the petal and it did its thing!!!!!I think if it was on the
road we would have gotten as ticket!!! How I took care of this
problem, was to move over to another wheel!!!!!Me from Indiana
