I think you will find that the high alum sampling tube doesn't take the
sudden change in temperature and you should really think about setting it
up permanent so that it will cool with the kiln. I have used the same tube
for more than five years with no failure. I use a tube that is large
enough to add on to the end of the metal sampling tube that comes with the
analizer kit. I then use high temp RTV to glue it in to the alumina tube.
It seem to take the heat and firmly glues it in to the alumina tube.

Tracy,
Ken Westfall has it right. The alumina tube is of good quality,
its just that alumina can't take the thermal shock very well. A
permanent tube in the kiln will, indeed, last for years. Your
thermocouple tubes (mostly mullite) last for a long time because
they are not removed from the hot kiln and heat up only slowly
with the kiln. If you take them out hot they will often snap like
a twig.
