satin glaze search

Hi.
I am having trouble finding a good food-safe translucent satin/matt glaze
that shows underglaze fairly well. I am tired of the shiny clear that
resembles Saran Wrap.
Has anyone had any luck with such a cone 6 glaze?

Thanks,

Michele, have you tried Zakin's Transparent Mat Glaze...cone 6, oxid. You
need to soak the kiln for an hour or more, at a much lower temperature,
after the cone 6 has bent, to develope the glaze. boron frit 30, ferro
3124; wollastonite 25; ball clay 40; dolomite 5. This glaze is described as
a clear mat to satin mat, translucent, with excellent durability and no
texture...Hope it works for you. Lori Pierce lorinfla@computronicsusa.com

If you have an electric kiln with a kiln-sitter....how do you 'soak' the kiln?

When the latch drops, Turn off the main switch (on the wall), lift the
latch, push in the button, lower the latch gently, set the element
switches (if you've got variable ones) to medium, set the limit timer to
your soak period (or the cooker timer), and turn on the main switch.
NEVER push the button in while the circuit is live; it causes arcing
which eventually screws up the contacts and can cause a serious overfire
in the future.
