JUROR

Warren MacKenzie has spent his life devoted to a craft tradition inspired
by Bernard Leach, with whom he apprenticed almost fifty years ago.
MacKenzie has had countless international, national and local exhibitions,
awards, and honors, but he prefers to be known as a local craftsman,
providing functional pots for his neighbors in Minnesota. He is Professor
Emeritus from the University of Minnesota where he taught for his entire
professional career. We are honored to have him
jury the SFPN this year.

AWARDS

Approximately $4000 in cash awards and business donations will be awarded
by MacKenzie after viewing the actual works.

ELIGIBILITY

* Open to residents of the 50 United States.
* Work produced after January, 1997.
* Size not to exceed thirty (30) inches in any dimension or twenty (20)
pounds in weight.

RULES

* Enter up to three functional pieces.
* Retail value: up to $600.
* Pieces must be for sale.
* Work must be available for the entire exhibit.
* Accepted pieces which differ from the slides will be disqualified.
* Accepted pieces which display poor craftmanship that was not visible on
the slide will be disqualified.

ENTRY FEES

* $20, non-refundable.
* Checks will be cashed in February, 1999.
Fee for returned checks is $20.
* Make checks out to Market House Craft Center.

SLIDE REQUIREMENTS

* Place slides in a sturdy plastic slide protector.
* Only one (1) slide per work entered.
* Slides must be 35mm color in cardboard or plastic mount.
* Slides of non-accepted work will be returned only if accompanied by a
self-addressed, business size envelope with $.78 postage.
* On the front of each slide indicate:
Across the top: Artist name
Title
Entry A, B, or C.
Put arrow on top right to show top of slide
At bottom put specific medium and dimensions (HxWxD)

CATALOG

Since our show catalog is black and white, we request participants to
submit professionally photographed 5x7 or 8x10 B&W, glossy prints of
accepted pieces. Best quality will be B&W prints from B&W film, rather than
internegative transfers from slides. If photographs are not received, by
the deadline, the catalog will feature an image scanned from the slide,
which usually results in lower quality. All participants will have a
picture in the catalog unless the quality is too poor to print.

SALES

All work must be for sale. Prices cannot be changed from the originally
submitted application. MHCC will retain a 35%
commission from sales to help underwrite the cost of the exhibit.

INSURANCE

MHCC will insure the work (less the 35% commission). MHCC is not
responsible for damage in transit.

PHOTOGRAPHY

* MHCC reserves the right to photograph works, and use submitted photo
materials of accepted pieces for the purposes of
documentation, education, publicity, and future grant proposals. Photos and
slides of accepted pieces will not be returned.
* The exhibition will also appear on the World Wide Web. The 1998 SFPN
exhibit may still be viewed in its entirety at
http://www.art-craftpa.com.

SPONSORS

The SFPN is supported in part by the PA Council on the Arts and, in 1998,
by: AMACO: American Art Clay Co., Inc; Bailey Pottery Equipment Corp.;
Ceramics Monthly; Clay Times; Creative Industries; Del Val Potter's Supply
Co.; Giffin Tec, Inc.; International Technical Ceramics, Inc.; Laguna Clay
Co.; Lancaster Designer-Craftsmen; Market House Craft Center; Orton Firing
Institute; Penn-Mo Fire Brick Co.; Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen;
Potter's Information Group;
Randall Pottery; Skutt Ceramic Products; Standard Ceramic Supply Co.

NOTE FROM THE DIRECTOR:

Dear Applicant,

The Market House Craft Center is a non-profit volunteer organization
dedicated to organizing exhibits that encourage understanding of fine
crafts. MHCC makes no profit on this exhibit and hires no personnel. Last
year we had more than fifty volunteers who gave many, many hours to make
this exhibit a success. The MHCC relies totally on grants, sponsors,
donations, AND entry fees to cover all the expenses in presenting this
event.

We appreciate the willingness of the artists to send in their photographs
for the catalog. The catalog helps in our goal of giving functional potters
more national exposure.

People around the world are able to enjoy the SFPN on the World Wide Web.
Please help spread the word about this exhibit. We are very excited about
the positive reception the SFPN has received, and we are very proud to have
Warren MacKenzie as our juror this year.

Thank you for each and every entry.

Jean B. Lehman, Project Director

We have learned that people forget which slide they sent as entry A B or C.
To help you remember, please make a note of which piece is which entry,
