Hi,

I'm new to the list and a bit overwhelmed by all the messages but think
that clayart is a great idea. My first question is: does anybody have
a glaze recipe for Shaner Green, a cone 9-10 reduction green, or
another darkish green glaze for cone 9-10 reduction?

Thanks,

Joan Hathaway

Hi, Joan -
I have a recipe for Shaner Brown that, where thick, is a wonderful mossy
green-brown. It's a satin mat at cone 10.
Potash Feldspar 45.35
EPK 21.51
Whiting 20.91
Red Iron Oxide 7.07
Talc 3.44
Bone Ash 1.72

Hope this might be what you're looking for. Where thin, it's brown;
where thick it's green. Hannah

Here's a recipe for "Shaner's Green" that we always keep mixed -- a favorite
for red clay bodies:

Shaner's Green Cone 9-11, reduction (matte to semi-matte)

Whiting 1800 gms (18.27%)
Custer Feldspar 4650 gms (45.19%)
EPK 2210 gms (21.48%)
Talc 350 gms (3.40%)
Bone Ash 910 gms (8.84%)
Copper Carbonate 290 gms (2.82%)
______________

Total batch wt: 10,290 gms

Insight "ratio" 4.65; "expan" 8.03

Always seems a bit dull on white-white clays (porcelain), but picks up a
nice -- almost jade-like -- depth on red clays (assume the effect is related
to the body's iron content?)

Sorry to provide this in recipe format -- it's the way we "inherited" it!

Best to all,
