shimpo wheel question

updated sat 2 jan 99

Greetings. Recently joined the Clayart discussion group and have
enjoyed reading the comments regarding our shared interest. Although I
primarily hand build, I occasionally throw on an old Shimpo RK-2. Motor
seems to run well but the wheel seems to have a mind of its own and will
accelerate to max speed unless constant foot pressure applied. I know
that this wheel has a cone drive but that's the limit of my knowledge. I
reviewed the comments on the clayart website but didn't find the answer.
Is there an easy adjustment? Does the rubber ring need to be replaced?
What I probably need is a maintenance and repair manual. .... .does
anyone have an e-mail address for Shimpo?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
dave

Dave,

Welcome to Clayart. Glad to hear from you. Your RK2 that speeds up
automatically may need a readjustment of the pressure between the drive ring
and cone. You can also check the brake kit for any loose or broken parts. If
you need diagrams, please send your fax number or address. Shimpo's e-mail
address is Shimpopot1@aol.com.

David,
You can contact Shimpo - at - shimpo1@aol.com
But I have several older shimpo's at school and they have the same
problem, there is no cure. Mike
