simple ash glazes?

Hello. I am new to the list and a novice potter as well. I have just
begun to experiment with glazes and wonder if anyone has suggestions for
a simple ash glaze I can make from the wood ash my wood stove
generates? I have been firing to Cone 6-8 oxidation in an electric
kiln. I have been experimenting with a base glaze composed of

Kaolin
Flint
Gerstley Borate

and wondered if I could modify that basic glaze to use wood ash?

Sorry if this question is an old one. And thanks for any suggestions.

Sue, Here is a ash glaze that works real well for me, although it runs a
bit, but put over another glaze you get a wonderful marbeling effect.

Ash Glaze ^6 Ox

Gerstley Borate 13.6
Lithium Carb. 4.5
Wood Ash 18.2
Whiting 18.2
Albany Slip 36.4
Kaolin 9.1

Hope you like it, Jennifer in Alpine, Tx

Kaolin, flint and Gerstley Borate (3/2/1, respectively), to a whole milk
consistancy, is Soldner's Slip for low fire salt glazing... just in case you
are curious.

James Chappell's book "A Potter's Complete Book of Clay and Glazes" has some
ash recipes in it. I have not used them, but the other glazes in the book
usually are great. Connie
