I have an opportunity to buy a Skutt C-183 kiln. This particular kiln is
12 years old, but is in great shape. I thought it'd be great as a test
kiln - to ^6. As far as I know they don't make them anymore. If anyone
has any info on this model or first hand experience please contact me.
TIA.

Caryl

It has a dryer plug but the wire is not in metal casing but rubber. So, =
=3D
I will have to change that first and get it rewired. The kiln sitter =3D
thing where the cone sits on two pieces are missing. There is only one =3D
thing sticking out. =3D20

Unless you are going to hard-wire the kiln to the wall, I wouldn't feel =3D
a need to replace the plastic-insulated cord. It's standard, and likely =3D
is just fine. While many people prefer to hardwire their kilns to the =3D
wall, there should no need to re-wire anything. The missing kiln-sitter =3D
cone supports will only cost a buck or two from any ceramics supplier, =3D
and slide right in. If the kiln doesn't work, fear not! There is very =3D
little that can't be easily fixed. If there's a problem after =3D
test-firing, report back; we'll help.

Does it just sit on the base?

The clips that hold the kiln rings together have no real structural =3D
role. Gravity holds it all in place on the base.

parts if needed for this kiln?

You can get tech specifications, etc, from the Skutt website. Peephole =3D
plugs are pretty much universal and available from any ceramics =3D
supplier, or you can carve some from old softbrick scraps.

That would be best, though a box fan in a window is better than nothing. =
=3D
If it's not well-vented, I'd avoid the kiln room during (and for a =3D
while after) firing, to let the fumes leave. They won't kill you =3D
overnight, or even after a few years' exposure, but why start now? Avoid =
=3D
breathing firing fumes.

Hi,

I just purchased a Skutt C-183 kiln. I don't even know if it works. It =
=3D
has a dryer plug but the wire is not in metal casing but rubber. So, I =3D
will have to change that first and get it rewired. The kiln sitter thing =
=3D
where the cone sits on two pieces are missing. There is only one thing =3D
sticking out. =3D20

It is in pieces (rings) I assume it clamps together. Is that all? =3D
Does it just sit on the base?

Does anyone have a manual or instructions for this type of kiln. It is =3D
also missing the four peeps. Is there somewhere where I could get parts =
=3D
if needed for this kiln? =3D20

Does this need to be vented to the outside?

I am in Prince Rupert, in northern B.C.=3D20

Any help would be appreciated.
