Would anyone be interested on commenting on lamp oil qualities and whole
sale sources? I'm interested indeveloping a line of oil lamps and have
felt that kerosene was un pleasant. Any comments from those experienced
in these things would be appreciated.
Incidently, our family used kerosene lamps exclusively in the summers
when we lived in a log cabin in vermont. I always enjoyed the slow ebbing
of the natural light and the peaceful but soft light of the lanterns.
maybe nature conscious consumers can be encouraged to return to this
method of lighting.

Leslie, I have used something called "liquid paraffin" which I bought from
Wal-Mart. It was smokeless. It was somewhat higher than regular lamp oil.

Yes kerosene is unpleasant, a better choice would be paraffin oil. It
burns clean, is smokeless. That's what we use in our lamps. We have a
source in Sanford, Fl. but the shipping would be incredibly expensive
for you. Check out Lamplight Farms, they are in Wisconsin
1-800-645-5267. Also Wal-mart will sell Lamplight Farm oil by the case.
I checked the internet but it was difficult to locate anything local for
the Southeast, you may have better luck.

Try Lamplight Farms in Menomonee Falls Wisc. (it's near Milwaukee). They
have a product called Ultrapure which is essentially smokefree. They'll
sell relatively small orders, too. Sorry I don't have the 800 number, butr
I'm sure they're in dir. Asst
