soaking with an elec kiln sitter

To soak without a controller you need to have a decent pyrometer, then
when the kiln shuts down ,restart immediately by manually pushing the
starter button on the sitter and gently drop the lever without popping
it out.I used to turn the top to low and the others to medium and watch
the pyrometer and turn the elements up and down to keep it at the
temperature I wanted(usually slightly lower than the top temperature-I
drop mine from 1205C to 1195C during a glaze). This is for a kiln with
three switches.Takes a little doing to figure how to maintain it.I now
have a Kilnmaster(wallmount), which takes all the guess work out.Hope
this helps.
