The second Holiday Pottery sale is over at what looked like Barbs pottery
barn this weekend. show went well though not as well as last year when I
had 2 ladies buy $300 each. I did about $1600 this year about which I
shall certainly not complain! A friend who does very low end put-together
jewelry didn't do very well and my wreath maker didn't do well either and
I'm sorry for that. I sent out about 300 post cards and had mentions on 2
radio stations and in the things to do sections of 3 papers. I guess about
60-70 people came. A very chatty and good time was had by all with hot
cider and cookies to share. other barb in bloomington

I'm about to head down to the studio to clean up after the weekend =3D
studio sale. Brief synopsis...best sale there in the last eight years. =
=3D
I put a priority on getting the word out to anyone who'd ever bought one =
=3D
of my pots in a 100 mile radius. Sent out over 1200 postcards designed =3D
by Beth Robinson, very classy. Used the email lists I've developed over =
=3D
the years. Posted on facebook. Dropped cards off at all of the local =3D
merchants I patronize during the year. Put up signboards around the =3D
neighborhood and in the building. Helped form and worked with an =3D
association of artists within my building that put on an "Open Studio" =3D
event that coincided with the first two days of my event, and which =3D
brought in everyone's customers, so that we were cross-pollinating our =3D
bases and hopefully expanding everyone's customer base. Spent a lot of =3D
time baking and cooking to create good smells in the studio and give the =
=3D
attendees a sense that we cared for them, and appreciated their =3D
presence. =3D20
Result: The building was packed with people. Parking lots were full to =
=3D
overflowing and folks had to walk a couple of blocks just to get there. =
=3D
My sales doubled from last year, which was pretty good. =3D20
I guess sometimes good planning and hard work does pay off. =3D20
Best,
Richard

Richard,
Congratulations on the successful sale! Sounds like the extra effort
really paid off for you.
My show went surprisingly well also, though I didn't do any special
marketing, just sent out the list. There is a sentiment out there to
buy locally made art crafts.
From Doyle, where it is snowing still and about 8 inches deep.

Congratulations Richard!
It's marvelous these days that there are so many ways to let folks know
what's happening.
Sounds like your studio sale was very successful, as it should be. Your
work is sublime.
