In regards to Cheryl's questions about books concerning techniques and
designs, I can recommend the ones I have come across. (see below) As far
as using Indian designs on your work, I don't believe there is anything
such as copyrighting designs as Dannon suggests. But there is the Indian
Arts and Crafts Law of 1990 that protects registered tribal members from
having their art ripped off. For complete details of this law, check out
the following URL located at Al Qoyawayma's web page. And then you might
want to back up and take a look at some of his pottery. He's one of the
finest Indian artists around.

Also, a number of Indian artists are giving workshops. Jody Folwell, the
Lewis sisters to name a few. Keep a look out in Ceramics Monthly and
Clay Times for advertisements. Here is a list of books I found helpful:

Talking with the Clay, The Art of Pueblo Pottery
Stephen Trimble
Some technique discussed. Good book.

Santa Clara Pottery Today
Betty LeFree
Lots of technique discussed. Excellent book.

Pottery of American Indian Women, The Legacy of Generations
Susan Peterson
Large coffee table style book. Lots of full color pictures and
interviews with artists. Goes along with an exhibit. I saw it at the
Heard Museum in Phoenix. Really wonderful.

Art of Clay, Timeless Pottery of the Southwest
Lee M. Cohen
Another coffee table style book. Interviews with artists.

The Pueblo Potter, A Study of Creative Imagination in Primitive Art
Ruth L. Bunzel
Good for design and explanation of designs.

Also the video, "Daughters of the Anasazi" is excellent. The Lewis
sisters give a step by step explanation of their techniques. If you can
stand the incessant flute music in the background that is way to loud.
;-}

Hope this helps.
