Fired some Terra Cotta pieces with no glaze but they came out too
orangey. Can I put an iron wash on them and fire again? What % iron
oxide for more brown? They were fired at 04 oxidation. Can't get the
formula for the clay body so must experiment a little, I guess.
Thank you,

I have fooled around with a number of the local terracotta clays that I
have dug and refined.
I find that the color depends a lot on how hot you fire them. At cone 06
they may be almost orange but as they are fired hotter they get darker and
go through brick red and at vitrification they are a dark chocolate brown.
Just put a couple of your pots in a cone 1 firing and see what happens.
