Applying TS to bone dry pots does not seem to wet them enough in my
experience for them to slake. I like to do my successive thin coats
while the previous coat is still damp. On very wide and thin bowl
forms, the wetting does weaken the piece. I TS the outside of the
bowl, leave it overnight and do the inside the next day to avoid
cracking while polishing.
Be careful if sanding first as I find that the dust can keep the TS
from adhering on the first coat.
Chipping of TS is generally because of thickness.
