I am a clay artist in Austin, TX and am helping launch a new Texas-wide
membership organization for clay artists. If you are interested in getting
more information, become a member, helping us, offering advice, submitting
information for publication in upcoming issues, or anything else related to
TCAA, please contact me.
Our main purpose is to provide Texas clay artists with information about
upcoming events, workshops, lectures, shows, deadlines, exhibits, classes,
etc. However, we are also planning to host an annual juried show and
possibly annual regional juried shows.
I look forward to hearing from you.

Stephanie, I am interested in your plans for Texas Clay Artists. I am a
founding member of the San Antonio Potters Guild. I am sure that the
membership would be interested in this. Please send me what you can so
that I can pass it on to the guild president.

TCAA PRESS RELEASE, sort of.....
The Texas Clay Arts Association is almost official. We have just completed
our third organizational meeting at which we chose a general logo design
(see attachment, more about that shortly), wrote a brief mission statement
(see below), discussed obtaining information for our first newsletter (to be
published in January), discussed benefits of joining TCAA (ie. what we want
to provide to our members), talked about having a member-wide "open" show in
April in Austin, opened discussion for finding (enticing) Board members and
members of an Executive Committee AND finally, among other things, set a
date for our NEXT MEETING..... Sunday, October 18 in Austin, at 10:00 a.m.;
location to be announced when we have an idea of how many people will be
attending.
We would like you to get involved, tell your clay friends, come to our
meeting, nominate someone for the board (know any attorneys, accountants,
printers, computer whizzes, who'd consider it an honor? we promise it to be
a learning experience!), make suggestions, give us advice, ....
THE MISSION
Texas Clay Arts Association is a state-wide membership organization for
anyone making art out of clay. Our goal is to unite Texas clay artists so
that they can share ideas and techniques and to inform them about upcoming
events, such as workshops, exhibits, lectures, festivals, classes and other
clay-related opportunities.
We would also like to promote clay art to everyone.
We intend to have an annual membership show. We have discussed the pros and
cons of having our first show be a juried show, but decided that that would
seem exclusive. Everyone will be invited to submit ONE piece. The details
of this show have yet to be determined.
We would like to have strong representation all over the state and are
counting on finding a volunteer in each region, like Vicki Katz of Houston,
to help us stay connected... tell us what's going on there, keep in touch
with the clayartists in your region, have your own meetings, etc. So, if
you know anyone in Lubbock, Corpus Christi, Alpine, Midland, El Paso, Tyler,
Amarillo, Beaumont, Galveston, Kerrville, San Antonio, Huntsville, Waco,
Terlingua, Fort Worth, San Angelo, .... please tell me how to get in touch
with them or tell them to get in touch with me.
I can be reached at 815A Brazos, #360, Austin, TX 78701, or 512-459-7599, or
smwilson@onr.com.
Thanks for your interest. Your feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Stephanie
P.S. The logo is a rough sketch which was generally agreed upon by our
existing members. A graphic artist is currently cleaning it up for us.

I would like to take this chance to say hello to all the TCAA members=
=20
here on the Clayarts list. My name is Claude Stephens and I recently assumed=
=20
the
duties of Houston regional director. Vicki Katz has been very kind in
helping to get me squared away with my duties and area information but still
I need to pick up the speed a bit. It would aid matters greatly if all
Houston area members would email me off list at StephensTCAA@aol.com so I ca=
n=20
compile an email distribution list. I'll use this to inform every one of any=
=20
events that come up after the newsletter is completed and to update every on=
e=20
of ongoing
projects.=20
If you are a TCAA member that is not in the Houston area and would=
=A0=20
like
this information, please feel free to contact me as well. Or if you know any
members that aren't on Clayarts, please forward this message to them so they
might email me. And finally if you know any members that are not online but
would still like the information, send me their contact information for them
and I'll try to insure they stay up dated with the rest of us.=20
I do ask the you include TCAA in the subject line. There are just too=
=20
many
viruses and other undesirable things out there to open mail if I don't
recognize the sender or something in the subject line.
We'll have our next meeting Nov. 2nd at North Harris College in=20
conjunction with the Jeff Oestreich workshop, but I'll send out a separate=20
notice for that. I am interested in your ideas for meetings and any other=20
events so please don't hesitate to contact me any time. Talk to you again=20
soon, Claude.
