top of wood-fired kiln fiber blanket cover?

Hello,
Could anyone offer options to me for a thin coating to paint on top of the
blanket I have laid on the noborigama two chamber kiln? I just want to keep
the silica out of our lungs and keep the blanket protected fron wear and
tear. There is a roof over the kiln.

Thanks, and Happy Halloween to all you spooks!

Carolyn:

I got a recipe from Peg Udall which I believe she in turn got from
Ruggles/Rankin that calls for 7 parts sand to 1 part cement. She referred =
to it
as a =22coating=22.

I used =22Playsand=22 I bought at Home Depot and Portland cement. I just =
troweled
on a thin (1/2=22) layer over the fiber and let it set up. It is only meant=
to
weatherproof the fiber and not to insulate. Remember to only put on a thin
layer. If you put it on too thick the weight will compress the fiber and
compressed fiber loses it's insulating value=21
