typhoons and firing

I remember when I was in Tokoname, Japan a couple of years ago participating
in IWCAT we had two wood firings during our stay. The first went well. The
second was fired during a typhoon. Admittedly we were on the edge of it but
the wind did blow pretty hard. Enough to force us to dismantle a very large
tent structure that we used for eating under and sheltering from the rain
if necessary. I still laugh at the memory I have of about 30 people holding
onto the tent and leaving the ground occasionally while pegs etc were
removed. I thought a bunch of us would end up in Tokyo. This firing was
not as good as the first. When we asked our Japanese hosts afterwards (I
love them all) whether the weather was the reason, the answer was, "Oh yes,
we would have postponed the firing if it was ours but we must keep to the
schedule." So I don't think you are being unreasonable, I would postpone
the firing.

Cheers, John
