Hi all, my husband and I will be attending the National Story Telling
Festival in Jonesborough Tenn. the first weekend in October. Since this is
my third time, I thought it would be great to come down early (Tuesday) and
visit some potters in the area (Tennessee and North Carolina). I would
appreciate any suggestions for people and galleries, anything clayarters
have to suggest.

I remember visiting a gallery on the Blue Ridge Mt. Pky. about 15 years
ago, I assume it is still there. It would be fun to meet some of you and
see your work and put faces to names that have shared so much and helped
me so much. All suggestions, including lodging and restaurants are
welcomed. We arrive at Tri-Cities airport Tuesday afternoon and have a
car. Maybe North Carolina first in the direction of Asheville? Very
flexible. Thanks,

Georgia Tenore

Hi, Georgia.......
My two favorites on the Blue Ridge Parkway......
Moses Cone Memorial House/Crafts Center....Blowing Rock NC area.....
Milepost 298 ??? pickup a Parkway newsletter and it will have all the places
listed...also the Southern Highlands Arts/Crafts Guild/FolkArt Center...on
Parkway....two hours south of Blowing rock..in Asheville.....
Black Mountain is not too far from Asheville...Rt. 70 East off parkway...lots
of great places there as well............
if you get the chance...Qualla Craft Co-op in Cherokee....where the parkway
ends is a great place for native amercian crafts, etc......stay away from the
junkie tourist crap....Qualla has the REAL native american crafts.....
so pretty throughout that area...............if you are seeking "high"
adventures....check out Mt Mitchell State Park.....about 30 minutes north on
parkway from Asheville.......head to the top....all 6684 ft.......the tower
sways and the wind will take your breath away but it's great.....and the lodge
there serves wonderful food...........
love western NC...can you tell?????
Beth in foothills of Blue Ridge Mtns......Cvlle, VA :))

Folks, I'm setting out tomorrow on my annual "Camping in Tennessee with the
Kids Steel Cage Death Match," in which I and my three small children
venture into the wildlands, while my wife stays home in the air
conditioning and reflects on what a brave and considerate mate she has. Or
at least this is my earnest hope.

Anyway, we're going to a state park not too far from Cookeville, and I was
wondering if any ClayArters besides Vince (who's likely gone for the
summer) call that approximate neck of the woods home. If so, I'd like to
stop by and talk to you about life in that part of Tennessee. I promise to
be much more charming in person than I am on ClayArt, (though I'm much
better looking on ClayArt than I am in person) and my kids know that
pottery is breakable.
