white scum on terra cotta planters

A while back I read a note about something to use on terracotta planters to
eliminate the white scum that hard water leaves on them..........some oil or
something????????? Sure can't remember for my life..............please

Laurie try cleaning it off with canola oil. This does the trick down under :).

As far as I know--used to be big on houseplants-- scum is really crystals
from fertilizer that come through the porous clay. I expect a book on
houseplant gardening will tell you what to do. Or the "scum" maybe
mold--again check gardening books
