position of pyrometers?

I'm looking for suggestions on the optimum location for the lower
thermocoupler (I use a digital, dual lead Fluke pyrometer) in my natural
gas downdraft (ifb) kiln. The kiln fires quite well, good even temps from
top to bottom and reaches cone 10 in 24 hours. I'm pleased with the top
readings but feel the bottom thermocoupler is over influenced by the draft
in the flu.
Kiln has 4 burners and the dimentions(inside)are:
floor, 51"X51"
sidewalls, 48" high
floor to center arch, 58"(10" rise from side wall)
bagwalls (2 bricks high), 9" in from sidewall (creating a 6" pace from
side wall to bagwall
Flu, 5" deep -9" wide in center of floor

Top pyrometer (reads quite accurately) is on the back wall, 9" from side
wall,on the top course of bricks before the arch rise begins

Botton pyrometer(last experiment)was on the back wall, 5th course of
bricks from the floor, 9" in from side wall and reads a rapid DECREASE in
temperature when (in an effort to INCREASE botton temps)I close downn the
damper opening a bit.

Any thoughts? Veronica
