Has anyone heard of an AIME kiln. I have someone who wants to sell his
kiln to me. Its a little electric kiln, it sounds like its not much
bigger than a test kiln. He has only used it a few times so it should be
in really good shape. I'm wondering if there is anything I should know
about them before I go and look at it, also about how much one might be
worth.
thanks, kit

Kit, I have an AIM kiln---small firing chamber 8"x8"x8". Purchased it
through Bailey's, and you can find a lot of info on AIM and other kilns
in Bailey's catalog. (1-800-431-6067, Bailey Pottery Equipment Corp.,
PO Box 1577, 62 Tenbroek Ave., Kingston, NY 12402) I use my kiln for
smallish scale raku and occasional emergency bisque for small scale
work, and it's been very satisfactory. (I take it you're talking about
AIM and not AIME...don't know anything about a kiln with the latter
spelling...) Oh yes, as I recall, mine cost about $350 last year
including kiln sitter (which I don't use for the raku and have
jerryrigged a system for keeping the power on and bypassing the
sitter). Do you get kiln furniture, too? It sounds like a good deal,
but I have no idea of how much it's worth. Just start low and
bargain??? Good luck,"CNC" alias Carolyn

Kit,

I once had an AIM kiln (note the spelling difference) that was made in
Scott's Valley, near Santa Cruz, CA. That was many years ago, perhaps
30. Since that time AIM has moved elsewhere and (I think) may have
changed names. Check on the date of the kiln; it may be quite old.

If it's like the one I have, it's an AIM 88 and plugs into a 110
outlet......costs around $250 new.....better look that up to be sure. I have
used mine for everything from jewelry to raku. It travels with me from time
to time......i love it. It's great for small stuff....and emergency bisque of
one or two mugs.
