Hello Clayarters-
Just finished Malcolm Davis' 3-day workshop at Old Church Cultural Center in
Demarest, NJ. Loads of fun throwing and altering porcelain a la Malcolm. We
threw that smooth, creamy stuff, then altered the forms into non-round
vessels, and watched & learned as he fluted with wavy wire filament, and made
his nifty handles. Saw slides of his lustrous and variable shino with
gorgeous carbon trapping and hues of black, gray, green & orange. Learned as
much about porcelain as a previously stoneware-only potter can in a short but
intensive time. The consensus was that 3 days was just enough to make friends
well enough and learn enough technique to get all fired up and regret moving
on. Thumbs up on this one.
