CLAYART is a forum for discussion of issues relating to clay and
ceramics. CLAYART is a computer conference that serves as a means of
communication for those interested in the ceramic arts. CLAYART is
open to anyone wishing to participate, but will be particularly useful
for those in ceramic-related areas of academia, private studios,
galleries, etc.

WHAT TYPE OF MESSAGES ARE APPROPRIATE FOR CLAYART?

Appropriate postings may include such topics as:

* aesthetic issues
* technical problems and solutions
* exhibition opportunities
* workshops/seminars
* conference information
* job announcements
* grant information
* book, video & exhibition reviews

Purely PRIVATE messages should be avoided on CLAYART. CLAYART is a public
forum for discussion. You are highly encouraged to keep ALL other
appropriate discussions public, but private messages should be sent
directly to their intended receiver.

Before sending any question to Clayart, it is STRONGLY recommended that
the user look at the clayart archives to see if their question has been
previously asked. This will keep the list from having too many repeat
questions which only adds to the high volume of daily mail. Please use

HOW TO SEND A MESSAGE TO CLAYART...

Messages for CLAYART are forwarded directly to list members. Send all
discussion to this e-mail address:
clayart@lsv.uky.edu
Please do not submit messages longer than 200 lines. Long messages
should be broken up into shorter sections and sent as separate
messages. Please include an appropriate subject line on your message.

SUBSCRIBING, STARTING & STOPPING MAIL, & SIGNING OFF...

-DO NOT SEND LISTSERV COMMANDS TO CLAYART!
-SEND ALL COMMANDS for subscription and setting mail options to:
listserv@lsv.uky.edu

All commands to the LISTSERV must be in the body of the message. Any text
in the SUBJECT line of the email message will be ignored. You must NOT
include ANY other text (signature file, etc) in the message.

If your email address changes and you're still getting ClayArt mail, but
you can no longer send commands to the listserv@lsv.uky.edu, please contact
the listowners (at the end of this message).

SUBSCRIBING -
In subscribing to ClayArt you MUST include BOTH your actual first name
and your last name in the format below. You must subscribe from your regular ema

To join (subscribe to) CLAYART, send the following e-mail message to the
listserv@lsv.uky.edu:
SUBSCRIBE CLAYART YourFirstName YourLastName

UNSUBSCRIBING -
To sign off CLAYART permanently, send the following e-mail message to the
listserv@lsv.uky.edu:
SIGNOFF CLAYART

To stop CLAYART mail temporarily, send the following e-mail

SET CLAYART NOMAIL

To reinstate CLAYART mail delivery, send the following e-mail message to
the listserv@lsv.uky.edu:

If you are using a commercial service you may want to set your CLAYART
subscription to DIGEST, which sends all the mail for one day as a single
e-mail message. To do this send the following message to
listserv@lsv.uky.edu:
SET CLAYART DIGEST

(NOTE: You can reset CLAYART to single mail messages by sending the SET
CLAYART MAIL message described above.)

Some members of clayart have commented that the headers are longer since
the list is being moderated. There is a listserv option that may provide
some relief for some of you. You may specify a short header by sending the
following message to listserv@lsv.uky.edu :
SET CLAYART SHORTHDR
If you decide you don't like the results of this change, sending
SET CLAYART FULLHDR
to listserv@lsv.uky.edu will set it back.

To determine what your CLAYART distribution settings are, send the
following message to listserv@lsv.uky.edu:
QUERY CLAYART
You may want to try the QUERY command if you stop receiving CLAYART mail.
If there are problems with your e-mail account the list moderator will set
your CLAYART mail to NOMAIL.

To obtain a list of CLAYART subscribers, send the following e-mail
message to listserv@lsv.uky.edu:
REVIEW CLAYART F=MAIL
or sorted by alphabetically by name:
REVIEW CLAYART BY NAME

Please take extra care to keep your mailboxes from overflowing by
downloading and/or deleting ClayArt mail regularly. Also, please
sign off from ClayArt BEFORE changing your nickname on AOL or otherwise
creating a situation where your mail from ClayArt will bounce!
If you do not adhere to the above, ALL mail to AOL accounts may stop!
AOL has done this before, and they may do it again.

the SDSU CeramicsWeb. Once you're connected, make a bookmark to more easily find

CeramicsWeb works a little like an electronic bulletin board.
Information available includes selected ClayArt archives; searchable
glaze and materials databases; information and software for the GlazeBase
international glaze database project; links to other ceramics sites
with information on ceramic suppliers, health and safety, and more.
There are also a variety of educational materials for ceramics such as
technical handouts, class syllabi, and articles on historical topics.
CeramicsWEB is a WWW site with digitized photographs included with the text.
