electric kiln isulation and glaze quality

I would like some feedback on the pros and cons of the thickness of electric
kiln insulation focusing on glaze quality. My first kiln was a square
heavily insulated Paragon, (60's vintage), encased in a sturdy metal
housing; my next experience was with a very well insulated Unique brand
kiln. Both, I thought, produced beautiful oxidation glazes. I was
disappointed to later find the same glaze recipes fired in my new Skutt kiln
lacked richness and depth, however that was overcome when I built my
hardbrick gas kiln. At the time I did not know about soaking an electric
kiln. Plans that I have seen for homemade electric kilns are all better
insulated than todays Skutt, and now that I am once again firing in an
oxidation atmosphere I am toying with the idea of buildind my own. I look
forward to hearing from you wired potters. this group MAKES MY DAY! Lori
