Does anyone know a US equivelent to PotteryCrafts Frit P2960, which I
believe is a frit used in the UK? I've looked through my books and
called my pottery supply place and still clueless. Like a whole lot of
folks here in DC.

i found a reference to pottery crafts frit 2962, but so far nothing about 2960.
the USA equivalent to P2962 as stated in coopers book of glaze recipes
(publ.1987) is ferro frit 3110 oe standard ceramic frit 386 or pemco frit 991
if i find any other info i will send it along later.

jon----i just went downstairs and checked my potterycrafts catalog-probably a
few years old since i last lived in the uk. it did list P2960 and also stated
that the formula was not available. it also stated that it is a low expansion
frit. "when added to a glaze this frit will help to lower the theral
expansion." firing range is 1020C-1150C. and that is the sum total of the
infor given. maybe some of the uk potters can give more info than the catalog.
good luck

Hello Jonathan, All I can find in my records is that P2960 is a low expansion
frit, used as an additive to lower thermal expansion (coefficient of
expansion) and I don't have a formula for it. You might find contacting Ferro
or Fusion directly is more helpful, especially Nath at Fusion.
Or try Ferro 3110.

Jonathan,
The nearest equivalents that I know of are Ferro 3249 or Penco P-1409.
If you would care to look at my web site under Pottery Techniques /
'Transporting Glazes', you will see that I list P2960 and the ones above
under Low Expansion Frits together with their analyses. They are not
identical, so some small adjustment would need to be made to the recipe
to match the desired glaze analysis.
