In the "Advanced Ceramics Manual; Technical Data for the Studio Potter"
by John W. Conrad The unity formula for Ferro frit 3271 is given as:
Na2O 0.486
K2O 0.514
B2O3 0.768
SiO2 2.25
Mol. Wt. 247.5
Fusion temp 810 degrees C.
I recommend this book highly. It is available from Falcon Company,
Publishers P.O. Box 22569 San Diego, CA 92192 or from the Potters
bookshop. The book holds the answers to many questions about materials.

Is ferro frit 3271 available in the US and if so do you know of a =
supplier?
If no longer available, can anyone suggest a good borax frit for glaze =
composition?

Hi Amy,
My data from Ferro says it's available from from the Los Angeles plant -
that means it should be available through a supplier somewhere.
Na2O - 12.8
CaO - 11.0
B2O3 - 21.6
SiO2 - 54.6
Total - 100.0
Notice the comparison to frit 3134
Na2O - 10.3
CaO - 20.1
B2O3 - 23.1
SiO2 - 46.5
Total - 100.0
And the comparison to 3278 - which is even closer
Na2O - 15.3
CaO - 6.9
B2O3 - 21.6
SiO2 - 56.2
Total - 100.0
Tell me which frit you can get and I can convert it easily - if you use
calculation software this will be a snap.
