I would like some feedback about my articles which have been published in
"Pottery Making Illustrated". Since the magazine does not have "letters to
the Editor' and there have been no comments in Ceramics Monthly it is hard to
guage their impact. So, how successful are people becoming after they have
adopted my suggestions for increasing the height of their pots? Do better
bowls result from using the inverted trumpet bell technique? Are teachers
using this information to help their students achieve success? Comments would
be appreciated. I.Lewis

I think the articles are excellant. I took them to the wheel and set up the
mirror so I could see what was happening while I tried the techniques. On
cylinders I soon realized ''Yeah, that's what I do,'' but I wouldn't have
been able to explain it to a student. So you helped every student I will
ever teach by giving me the vocabulary.
The bowl techniques are not the ones I use but I'll take a day and practice
them to see if they are better, any thing less wouldn't be a fair trial.
I'll have to consentrate hard to keep from sliding into habit patterns.

As a relative beginner at ceramics (and on occasion haphazard about
listserv replies - my apologies to the list for the reply I sent to
everyone that was just meant to go to The Potter's Shop...:( ), the
techniques in the PMI article for increasing the height of my pots has
made a world of difference. I am perpetually amazed and grateful for
the shared insights through this list and the articles in PMI, CM, etc.
I haven't yet tried the inverted trumpet bell technique (haven't given
up my day job yet), but I will eventually...
Thanks to all who share their wisdom, goofs, perspectives and selves in
this setting!!
