evenheat digital kiln question

Hi,

I am house sitting for another clay artist and am using her Evenheat
Digital Kiln for the first time today and have run into a problem. I set
it last night to glaze fire at Cone 6, with an increase temperature of 275
per hour. I was also asked about a "Soft" setting, which I set at 1 hour.
I thought that this setting would retain the highest temperature for an
hour before the temperature began to drop. I went out this morning to find
that the pieces were not glazed, that the kiln had not gotten nearly hot
enough to glaze. I reset it again this morning and after an hour the
temperature started to decline again. It seems to work okay electrically.
So, I set it a third time with the "Soft" setting to "0", no hours or
minutes. Do any of you know if this will allow the kiln to get to the
temperature needed for a glaze firing? I will not be back at the house
until tomorrow, so I can't monitor it, but I am curious what I will find
when I return. Unfortunately, the owner did not leave the manual for the
kiln, so I am left to my own devices. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

choose 0.

5. Press enter and hold memntarily until display flashes on and off.

6. Press select. The rate/hr light will be flashing. Use arrows to set 275.

7. Press enter and hold mementarily until display flashes on and off.

8. Press select. The hold time light will be flashing. "soft" is chosen
automatically when firing by cone.

9. Press select. The temp/off light will be on. Programming is complete.

10. Press start to run the program.

The soft feature slows the kiln down as it reaches peak temperature. But you
can set a hold time in addition to that.
