sharing workshops

OK, I'll share a workshop. I'm just back from a 4 day workshop with Steven
Hill at Bennington College, VT. It was a hands-on workshop, but we were so =
busy
observing that not too many of us spent much time on the wheel. I came home
with REAMS of notes. After a week, I've experimented and implimented a =
bunch of
new techniques into the studio, with many more yet to come. After 6 years =
of
potting, and attending workshops, this one finally got me moving, the ideas
gelled. While he demonstrates, he shares the progression of thought =
processes
behind his spectacular forms and techniques. All that and a great sense of
humor, too=21 A very worthwhile workshop.

Why, you might be thinking, am I sharing this with you all? Simple. I =
believe
in sharing good things when I find them...

PS...not compensated in any way...just happy to pass my personal experience
along to other clay artists, for whatever thats worth. Maybe others could =
pass
along their similar findings, too, so we can all learn vicariously?

Unlike Corinne's workshop with Steven Hill where they were too busy
listening and watching to work, in the Eddie Dominguez workshop at
Bennington, we were encouraged to try it all. We fired at least 5 kiln
loads of lowfire ware. All of us taking his workshop were pretty new to
the world of underglazes and lowfire so it was humbling to be such a
beginner again.

Eddie also gives a very thought provoking workshop as he talks
philosophy. Although we all work in stoneware, most of us came away with
new ideas, refreshed and ready to get back to work.

The nicest part of being at Bennington was that all the studios and
workshops were open. I feel like I got a good part of the Steven Hill
workshop as well because we were free to wander. Their group came and
watched Eddie paint with underglazes.
