John Neely gave a recipe for synthetic ash. Some wrote back asking what
temperature is that glaze.
what John gave was the recipe for you to make a substitute for ash. You
could take that formula measure it out, add water, screen it thru your 80
mesh screen. and then dry it out in a bisque bowl. Put it in a bucket like
you would your feldspar, fint or whatever. Whenever you see a recipe
calling for ash use Johns substitute.
Here is a classic ash glaze recipe Called-221
2 parts feldspar, 2 parts ash, 1 part ball clay
for this recipe you would use Johns synthetic ash for the 2 parts ash.
If you can't collect the real thing- fake it!
Cheers,
Tony
