I've done a lot of mold work and have always been happiest using mold
soap, purchased from a ceramic supplier. It can come several ways. The
thinnish stuff can be used as is. The thick stuff has to be slowly
simmered in water to make it thin.
Use the mold soap on dry plaster, apply about three coats with an
elephant ear sponge, allowing fifteen minutes or so between
applications. After you're all done and have released your new piece, it
is possible to remove the mold soap by applying a tiny bit of white
vinegar. The soap is neutralized by the vinegar and sucked into the cast
plaster, where it will never be noticed again.
