A month or so ago I asked about bluebird pugmills on Clayart and got very
helpful responses. The result was everyone who owns a bluebird seems to like
it. Then I went to my local supplier who is selling Shimpo Pugmills. He told
me the Shimpo had two features he liked over the bluebird or venco, which was
that the Shimpo could be cleaned much easier and the deairing feature was far
superior. Do any of you folks have any experience with the Shimpo? I tried to
search Clayart archives for Shimpo information but found nothing. Thanks

I have never tried the venco or bluebird but I really really like my Shimpo
de-airing. I had an old English pugmill for many years. New one is a treat
to use. Clean-up, such as cleaning out a dark body to put through a white
body was very simple. Comes apart quickly and easily. I would recommend.

I have used a Shimpo Pugmill with the Add-a-Vac option for a little over a
year. It is essential to our teaching studio. I am able to completely
clean the pug mill and switch from a red earthenware to a porcelain quickly
with out risking contaminating the porcelain with iron or other impurities
from the earthenware. The Add-a-Vac consistently de-airs the clay
regardless of consistency (from sticky wet to difficult to wedge dry). We
often pug up to 200 lbs two to three times a week during session. We have
had no problems with our pugmill.
If you have any questions that I have not answered about specifics or
experience with the Shimpo Pugmill, please email us personally.

to C.A.Sanger.. I bought one of the first of the Shimpo NVA series similar =
to
your marvelous bargain..It does not have a pusher plate which I think is =
more a
safety device. If you fit single phase motors of the same speed and =
power..there
will be no change in performance..The vacuum chamber gasket can be replaced =

a cut piece of sheet rubber or neoprene. mine has been replaced. re the =
