I have made a number of what I call "trimming bats" by stapling 1/4"
dense foam onto regular bats, or ones you don't like to use for throwing
anymore. They're great for any broad-based piece. I draw concentric
circles on them with a permanent marker to help center. Cost a lot less
than $39 from the Axner catalog, and easy to make.
