A supplier Web site would be the dream of cyberclayers everywhere. I dunno
about Yall, but the less shipping I have to pay, the more likely I am to use
a company if products are similar, and getting the lowdown on service helps
me make a decision.

When I went to the Laguna facility at City of Industry, CA I was always
treated with respect and courtesy. All the materials and clay I bought were
high quality and performed as I expected. I used ^10 Westwood clays in the
70's and when Laguna bought them I used Soldate and had no problems with it
most of the time. One batch cracked a lot in mid 1992, but the next didn't.
I am not a production potter any more, so don't use large quantities of
clay, and I need a soft pug due to hand injury. It has been 3 years since I
dealt with Laguna, so I am sorry to hear their service has deteriorated.

I used Aardvard quite a bit lately as I was a few minutes away from them,
and they were helpful, had a big stocked showroom, gave samples, and I loved
their ^5-6 stoneware, Sedona.

I am now researching local sources and have had wonderful customer service
from Axner in Florida and Southern in Baton Rouge, LA. The samples Axner
sent were all right, the Raku body throws well, but it still remains to be
seen how my tests tiles come out on the ^6 stoneware "Elizabeth." Then the
glaze fit will probably determine who I go with, as I don't want to
reformulate constantly. I also find the trip to BR could be used for market
research and loading up on clay and glaze chems a big plus. No shipping!

All you cyber gurus out there are so appreciated! The scanning thread has
been a blessing, and I thank you profusely.

I know ya'll like attaboys on suppliers to balance out the bitch
sessions, so here's mine. I ordered a Hydrobat a week or so ago. It
arrived on time, but the bat pin spacing was enough off (3/32 inch) that
it didn't fit properly. When I called them, they said keep the old one
and sent me a replacement no charge. They were really cool about the
whole thing. It's a well made product that has a good company behind
it.

Directly from Hydrobat. Apparently, they are having some quality control issues,
but they absolutely stand behind their product.
