Thanks to all for the tips on the persnickity, for me, floating blue. When
I posted my experience with it I never expected all the suggestions back.
I'm very grateful.
My results so far are that when put over another glaze, I am getting the
nice deep blue with golden clouds floating above. If applied too thick
even over another glaze I get a great deal of crawling although in some
awesome patterns.
What I haven't tried yet is bisquing to a higher temp so I can maybe use FB
alone. this is one solution I never would have thought of. I currently use
an 06 mini bar which in my kiln will give me about an 07 or 08 bisque. (We
did 08 in college so I thought EVERYTHING should be that!!)
Since there were so many raves about this glaze, I made a 10,000 gram
batch. I dedicated a whole kiln load to it and couldn't wait for the
results! Imagine my surprise when I opened to kiln to gaze upon an array
of slim green, pinholed ware. My first thought of course was to find the
nearest toxic waste dump and add a nice brown liquid to it. However the
thought of the cobalt oxide included herein tempered that impulse. I will
say though that it was one lonely glaze bucket for a while. I didn't even
put it near the other glaze buckets. (would it behave better if ostrasized
a bit? I think I've been in the studio alone too long, must be time for a
show!)
So thanks to all of you including but not limited to: Pat Logue, Marty
Anderson, Bill Williams, Chris Schafale, Vicki Ferris, Susan Goldstein,
Gracie (I want to capitalize that 'G'!), Herb Moses, and Nils Lou.
Kim Marie...in the snowy Cortland/skaneateles area but at least today the
birds are singing and it sounds like spring!
