Even though I had no pressing or particular reason to view the k-12 exhibit and
have been retired from teaching 2 years in public school and 33 years in a
university (many potential art teachers) I went anyway. Am I GLAD I did! I was
dumb founded in a couple of instances by the creativity and technical mastery of
the material. It was obvious that a couple of schools were very well
represented. I believe there are many other teachers out there that have
students as good or better than some of those who's work was show and I would
encourage others to support the show by submitting their student's work in
future years.. I would also like to add my support to the idea of making the
k-12 exhibit a permanent part of the NCECA conference for all of the reasons
that Jim suggests as well as for the sense of worth it can bring to both the
student participants and their teachers. We all know that quite often art
teachers and art programs are considered second class citzens, Here's a chance
to demonstrate the falseness of that kind of thinking. I too urge all those who
read this to provide Jim with their feelings of support for the k-12 exhibit.
