base matt glaze

Please tell me--Is the following base matt glaze food safe? will fire it at
cone 6 ox.
i'm not sure about the barium????
Nepheline syenite 50
barium carbonate 10
ferro frit #3124 5
Whiting 5
lithium carbonate 5
e.p.k. kaolin 10
Flint 15
I want to test this with added copper, and chrome--but am only interested if
it is food safe. thanking ya'll in advance--

Hi Lynn,

Unfortunately you have just described a Catch 22 situation. You won't
test it until you know it is safe and you can't know if it is safe until
you test it. Most people forego the use of barium in food contact
surfaces; although some still consider it Ok. I recommend you test your
base glaze for barium and lithium. If that looks Ok to you then test the
copper containing glaze for copper, barium and lithium (copper is known
to loosen up the whole structure and may well make the barium and/or
lithium more extractable than it was without copper present.) John

Hi Lynn,

I'll bet it's not - and adding copper and chrome is going to make it worse.
Barium and Lithium are both toxic - find another glaze.
