We have two computer-controlled Gare kilns at the community center where I
teach. They are about 4 years old, I understand. The elements have to be
replaced about once a year with about 4 firings a week each. They seem to be
fine--i.e. no elements falling out and no loose stuff from the walls or loose
bricks. Ours are quite deep and loading is definitely hard on the back.

Dear Clayart,
Hello out there fellow potters. Has anyone either used or heard of a Gare
kiln? I have an opportunity to buy a used one and would like to know more
about it.
Thanks,
Joyce

The art center where I took my first clay classes many years ago had an 18"
by 24" Gare kiln. My instructor liked the fact that it had toggle
switches rather than dials because he considered it less complicated
to fix if broken. We occasionally replaced an element, but had no
other problems with it. I used it for about five years.
