Ceramics with Itsue Ito
Three week workshop (may be taken for Credit or as workshop)
July 19-August 6/ 9 am to 3 pm
University of Hawai'i at Manoa Art Department

Itsue Ito is an internationally renowned ceramic artist. She has recently
done research in the Netherlands at the Europees Keramisch
Werkcentrum and in Japan at Otsuka Omi. She graduated from LSU
(MFA). Her work is in collections all over the world. She is
a great teacher and it will be a great course!
This is a great opportunity to work intensively, and experience how
wonderful Hawai'i is. The information below is for anyone wanting to
register for credit. You will note that the cost for out of staters is
ridiculously low! One could also register for the course as a workshop,
and to do that you will need to contact Alan Hunley, at our Outreach
College, directly. (email ahunley@outreach.hawaii.edu or 808-956-3411)
Hunley is OUtreach College Public Events Coordinator.
For information regarding housing, which is also quite reasonable, you can
email Student Housing at uhmsh@hawaii.edu
Any other questions, etc., please contact me, Suzanne Wolfe --

Ceramic Form & Content
With Itsue Ito, internationally known ceramic artist from Japan, as your
guide, explore the influence of the material properties of clay on form.
Examine the effects of various surface treatments and finishes. Evaluate the
relationship between hard-edged geometric versus spontaneous organic
approaches to form, seperately and in combination. And develop an awareness
of the relationship between form and content as they pertain to ceramic
objects. In addition to demonstrating valuable skills and techniques,
visiting artist Ito will have extensive one-on-one discussions with
students.
