Dear Clay Arters,
Attaching an image file does not seem to work when sent through our
channels. I apologize for that...
To see the glaze tests for Blueberry hill and Pussy willow, you can
visit my web site (hot spot at end of message) and click on "glaze
tests". The left image is the four tests all together, fired at the
bottom of the kiln, with 1,2, & 3 coats of brushed on glaze. The right
images are placement tests of #2 & #3. These were all fired in the same
kiln at cone six oxidation with a ten minute soak. I have a wall mounted
kiln master. The cone 7 back up in the kiln sitter melted slightly. I
would love to hear any thoughts about what you think may have occurred.
Excuse the cryptic writing but I can only use my left hand at this
point. Cast comes off in three weeks!
My web site gallery is an exhibit of my multi media sculptures. I
use clay for body parts and underlying structures. I teach clay classes
for kids and adults. In case you were wondering...
For all you cone 6 oxidation firers, I will be adding KJ Blue Green
to the data base soon.
Below are my last two posts in reference to these glaze tests.
Many thanks to all you generous people...
Elizabeth

Dear ^6'ers,
I have had the opportunity to run two high fire loads this week and
here are the results of testing for "Pussy Willow" and "Blueberry Hill":

See attached image
#1 This is my first test batch that I loved. This sample of it
doesn't match my original results though.
#2 Using Tom and Autumn's suggestions, I mixed 60% custer with 40%
kona and sieved through a kitchen mesh strainer. This was closer but
still tooooo shiny. So....
#3 Then I thought, maybe I accidentally omitted the gerstley borate,

so in this test I used the 60% custer and 40% kona ratio but omitted the

gerstley borate. This was still shinier than #1 but had some nice depth
of color.
#4 This was my original recipe (no custer) with the gerstley borate
omitted. This gave a matte finish with nice speckling.

In conclusion, I must have omitted the gerstley borate...

I also did placement tests with #3 & #4 and each glaze looks
different depending on its location!
I will continue to experiment. Thank you all for your help.
You are all keeping me sane while my broken wrist heals.
