What a marvelous lady, a real treasure.I had the good fortune to attend one
of her workshops in Oahu (HAWAII) many years ago with a potter/painter friend
Barbara Burger who lives there. She cooked a chicken in a pot she made about
it, threw, glazed and fired more than a load of pots all amazingly
delightful and we had a covered dish meal the last day with some of the most
wonderful ethnic dishes I could have found in the best restaurants.Toshiko
took all the work she made there and had us buy chances in a raffle for the
benefit of the YWCA (CLAY PROGRAM SHE STARTED)and I had the good fortune to
win twice and so my friend and i GOT TO PICK A POT OF OUR CHOICE AND I STILL
TREASURE IT AND THE MEMORIES TODAY.
On another trip a few years later I met Toshiko when she was visiting Kaiua
at the hotel I was staying (SHE WENT TO SEE A SHOW THEY WERE HOLDING,I
BELIEVE).She remembered me from the workshop many years before (PROBABLY
BECAUSE SHE KNEW MY FRIEND,Barbara, who went to all of her shows on the
islands.I got to ride on the the flight with Hawaiian Air next to her and
her friend.What a treat!
