Hi all,
I just had Easter dinner with a potter friend who has an interesting
kiln: it's MFT shaped IFB gas, but the TOP lifts off with a pulley and
you load from above: not my idea of fun(36"walls), but the intriguing
thing about this kiln is that it has 2 flues. A regular downdraft one
that looks normal sized and then a smaller one about 3/4 of the way up
the wall. The chimney is built flush with the kiln. The damper of the
top flue is vertical and the bottom one is horizontal.
Kathy says the upper flue is useful in heating up the upper back if
necessary, a place that has been cool for me at times. Hummm, sounds
like something worth building in to my rebuild of old Bertha...couldn't
hurt. Whaddya think?

Chronic habits: chocolate, clay, clayart
Calvin(outside at night): Look at all the stars! The universe goes out
forever and ever!
Hobbes: It kind of makes you wonder why man considers himself such a
big screaming deal.
Calvin(later watching TV): That's why we stay inside with our
appliances.
