wood fire reduction/oxidation at end?

Hi, a friend (honest...really a friend) has just fired his modified
aborigami for the third time and is thinking about letting it oxidize at
the end to brighten the glazes and flashing. He is thinking that by
leaving the fire box open at the end 10-30 minutes no stoking it will
clear out some of the brown. He has been firing up to temp in a
reduction atmosphere, stuffing the fire box at the end, closing up the
fire box and then stoking the back chamber for a while longer (hours).
Anybody out there with experince with these kilns or wood fire let us
know about your experiences and ideas.
thanx, jack kirkpatrick
